Poinciana Reformed Baptist Church
Where God is the center of the preaching, teaching, and worship.
Our beliefs are based on the Bible alone.
Through the Bible, God has clearly revealed to us that He saved us by His grace alone, through the free gift of faith alone, in Christ alone, according to the Scriptures alone, for His glory alone.
Through the Bible, God has also revealed to us that before we were born again, we were condemned sinners, separated from Him because of sin, under the power of sin and death, without saving faith, and therefore unable to submit to Christ as Lord and Savior. We were in this spiritual condition until God caused us to be born again by the power of the Holy Spirit through the hearing of the Gospel, and through the free gift of faith that came from God, we obeyed the Gospel command to trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior, repent of our sins, and follow Him as Lord of our lives. Therefore, we strive by faith to live our daily lives in obedience to the authoritative Word of God, the Bible. This obedience is the result of our eternal salvation, and not the cause.
Although we refer to ourselves as born-again Christians who live according to the Gospel, whenever anyone (who has knowledge of the various doctrines that exist today) asks which of the established doctrines we follow, we respond by saying that we are a Reformed Baptist church who substantially subscribes to the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith. You can read this confession of faith online by clicking on the following link: https://1689londonbaptistconfession.com/.
The term "Reformed" refers to the Bible-based doctrines that exposed the corruption in the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church during the Protestant Reformation in the 1500s. The key ideas of the Reformation were outlined in five Latin slogans known as the Five Solas: Sola Scriptura, Solus Christus, Sola Fide, Sola Gratia, and Soli Deo Gloria. Sola Scriptura is the belief that the Bible is God's inspired Word, inerrant, sufficient, and the final authority for the church. Solus Christus is the assertion that Christ alone is the basis on which the ungodly are justified in God’s sight. Sola Fide maintains that the believer receives the redemption Christ has accomplished only through faith. Sola Gratia proclaims that all of our salvation, from beginning to end, is by God's undeserved grace alone. Because of these things, the Reformers held fast to the phrase Soli Deo Gloria, which means that only God receives glory for our salvation from beginning to end.
As a Reformed Church we believe that the Doctrines of Grace (which are clearly supported by the
Scriptures) are fundamental to the Christian faith and have been taught and practiced accordingly for over 2,000 years. The basic description of these doctrines are as follows:
1) Total Depravity: Humanity is inherently corrupted by sin, rendering them unable to submit to Christ as Lord, or do anything to please God within their own abilities.
2) Unconditional Election: God chooses individuals for salvation based on His sovereign will, not on any merit or foreseen faith in them.
3) Limited Atonement: Christ's gave His life for the church (individuals who God had chosen for salvation before the creation of the world).
4) Irresistible Grace: When God calls His elect to salvation, He does not fail, and therefore they are unable to resist His wonderful sovereign grace.
5) Perseverance of the Saints: Those whom God predestined for salvation and called through the Gospel, will be preserved by His power until the end, and therefore will persevere.
Clear Scriptural support of these doctrines can be found in the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith (click the link for the online document: https://1689londonbaptistconfession.com/).
By referring to ourselves as Baptist, we are stating our conviction that only professing believers should be baptized and become members of the local church. We are convinced of this because of the clear commands of Christ and the examples found in the New Testament. Water Baptism is done as part of a believer's confession of faith in Christ as Savior and Lord. It is an outward expression of an inward spiritual reality of a believer's union with Christ through His death, burial, and resurrection. Water Baptism also serves as a New Covenant sign of a believer's union with Christ.
We are an independent autonomous church. We are not affiliated with any denomination but enjoy fellowship with other Reformed Baptist churches.
What we believe
Our Teaching Elder
Pastor Nelson Berrios
(Pastor Nelson and his wife Iris)
Pastor Nelson graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Management, and from Liberty University's Theological Seminary with a Master's Degree in Religion.
He was the founding pastor of Iglesia Bautista Reformada Gracia Soberana in Ontario California where he served as the teaching elder for ten years. While pastoring, he was also a full-time public high school teacher. He retired from public education in 2022 and relocated to Kissimmee (Poinciana), Florida. His philosophy of religion is based on Ephesians 4:11-12, "...to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ," and Matthew 28:19-20, where our Lord commanded His followers to "...make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."
